Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I install a font?

Installing Fonts on a Mac

  • Download the font file (usually .otf).
  • Locate the file in your Downloads folder.
  • Double-click the font file. A preview window will open.
  • Click “Install Font” at the bottom of the preview.
  • The font will now appear in Font Book and be available in applications like Word, Pages, Photoshop, etc.

Installing Fonts on Windows (PC)

  • Download the font file (.ttf or .otf).
  • Locate the file in your Downloads folder.
  • Right-click the file and select Install (for just your user) or Install for all users (requires admin).
  • On older versions of Windows, you may need to choose Control Panel → Appearance and Personalization → Fonts, then drag the file into the Fonts window.
  • Once installed, the font will be available in programs like Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe apps.

    Quick Notes

    • After installation, you may need to restart the program you’re using so it recognizes the new font.
    • Fonts installed this way are system-wide, meaning they’ll show up in most apps automatically.
    • File types to look for: .otf (OpenType) or .ttf (TrueType).
    PNG vs JPG vs SVG?

    1. JPG (or JPEG)

    • Best for: Photos, images with lots of colors.
    • Strengths: Small file size, loads quickly, works everywhere.
    • Weakness: Blurry or pixelated if resized too big; doesn’t support transparent backgrounds.
    • Think of it as: A printed photo. Looks great, but you can’t peel the background off.

    2. PNG

    • Best for: Logos, graphics, screenshots, anything that needs a transparent background.
    • Strengths: Crisp, clear quality; background can be see-through.
    • Weakness: Larger file size than JPG.
    • Think of it as: A sticker. You can place it anywhere, and the background disappears.

    3. SVG

    • Best for: Logos, icons, simple shapes/illustrations.
    • Strengths: Can be resized infinitely without getting blurry; tiny file size for simple graphics.
    • Weakness: Not ideal for photos; some older programs don’t support it.
    • Think of it as: A blueprint. It scales perfectly no matter how big or small you make it.

    Quick Cheat Sheet

    • Use JPG for photos.
    • Use PNG for logos/graphics with transparent backgrounds.
    • Use SVG for logos or icons that might need to be scaled to any size (like print + web).
